His musical studies include performances under Dr. Harry Begian, Dr. Frederick Fennell,

Dr. Stanley Chapple, Dr. Rebecca Covell, Mr. Elliot Del Borgo, Dr. Donald Gephardt,

Mr. Anthony Maiello, and Mr. Brock McElheran.  His principal percussion teachers were

Mr. Ronald Gould and Mr. James Petercsak. His conducting training was under Mr. Brock McElheran.

Although Mr. Immerso is now retired, he was a music educator for over 40 years and taught

instrumental music for 25 years in New York State.  During his 25 years of teaching, Mr. Immerso taught at three different school districts. He was the Middle School Band Director for the Patchogue-Medford Schools (Saxton Middle School), the High School Band Director and Coordinator of Music for the Sag Harbor Schools (Pierson High School) and the High School Assistant Marching Band Director at Hauppauge High School. Over the years, he taught marching band, jazz band and concert band.

He has been a guest conductor at both the Nassau County Music Educators’ Association
All-County Festivals and the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association All-County
Festivals.  He has conducted at the Tillis Center of C.W. Post College in Westbury, New
York too.

He was a certified Solo and Ensemble Festival Adjudicator for 18 years, as well as a
member of the SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association) Executive Board for
10 years, and was Chairman of the All-County Division II Band, multiple times. He was on
the Executive Board of the Hampton Music Educators’ Association, and was Chairman of
the Hampton Music Educators’ Association Jazz Ensemble.  He was Vice-President of the
Percussive Arts Society (New York State Chapter) as well.

Mr. Immerso has previously performed with the USC Palmetto Concert Band, Carolina
Winds, Atlantic Wind Symphony, the Sinfonia Pacifica, the North Shore Pops, the
American Concert Band, and at Liberty Weekend, for the rededication of the Statue of Liberty
on Governors Island, in New York in 1986 (under the direction of Mr. John Williams and
Mr. Brock McElheran).  He founded the SCMEA Day of Percussion (hosting it for 10
years), the SCMEA All-County Percussion Ensemble, and the Long Island Marimba
Ensemble.

 

Mr. Immerso has composed several works for percussion that have been published through Pioneer
Percussion. These works have been performed in the United States, Europe, and South
America.  He was named Teacher of the Week by WLIW-TV in New York, and has been
nominated for both the Helen Hosmer Distinguished Alumni Award, and the
Disney American Teacher Award.

Mr. Immerso's professional affiliations have included the National Association for Music Educators',
South Carolina Music Educators’ Association, South Carolina Band Directors Association,
New York State School Music Association, Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association,
Percussive Arts Society, and the Hamptons Music Educators’ Association.

Mr. Immerso resides in Lexington with his wife, Tracey and their five children.
